Plus-Sized = Beautiful
So the debate rages on about body image and what is beautiful. Everyday we hear about another model that has anorexia or bulimia or has died from one of both of the diseases. The battle to be thin and, in American as well as European eyes, beautiful takes a toll on the psyche of the American woman.
When all know the facts that the average model is a size 0-2 and the average woman is a size 10-14ish :-). That is all fine and dandy for them, but there are women out there who are larger and who are gorgeous. Let's look at a few examples.

Next we have the phenomenal Lisa Nicole Carson. She has always been one of the actresses in Hollywood that I have admired. She can sing and act and is altogether a very interesting person to watch on film. Lisa like most women in America has had some serious issues with her look and it has caused her to have to seek medical attention which is too bad because she is gorgeous.

Another woman who is extremely talented that I have followed a majority of her career is Countess Vaughn. She like so many women in America struggles with her weight, even though she is really not a large girl. While working as an extra on the Parkers she and I chatted a little bit and she seemed to be a very kind and funny individual. We even caught each other doing the same dance to music that was piped on to the set in between shots, that was funny. I last saw her on the VH1 Celebreality show Celebrity Fit Club. I know as an actor I should be protesting this, but I reconciled that the people on the show were actors so I was supporting them :-). In any case Ms. Vaughn was going through what seemed like a very messy and emotionally taxing divorce and like myself she is an emotional eater, thus she did not get the full impact of the show, but it really did show how painfully human she is and that she like so many others use food as a friend, comfort and something to control.

So no matter how you weigh in on the weight debate it is clear that talent should transcend all physical and social acceptance boundries. There are big beautiful women out there and we should all be proud of who we are and only work on maintaining health, sanity and happiness.
Pleasantly plump,
Ms. Denva

Hey Ms. Denva! First I would like to say thank you for all of your blogs. I love reading them and am a cyber fan, lol. I am going to take my hand at the world of blogging, so don't laugh if I don't put things as eloquent as you, lol.
I think that this is a very interesting subject that you have written about. I agree with what you are saying. I think that there are many thin people who lack talent, integrity and intelligence. Yet because they have the right size clothes we as America get innundated with their images. I know many thin and beautiful people who are truly ugly in areas where it matters, such as integrity (as I previously mentioned), moral standards, kindness, consideration...just to name a few.
I also think it's sad that our young girls want to emulate images. That's all that many of these "superstars" are is images. There is an inborn desire for perfection but perfection is something that can never be attained this side of eternity. What makes a person beautiful? I wish that the media would begin to tell of the beauty that was birthed through the trial and hardship and can be seen in the eyes and heard in the stories of many of the old people that are stuffed away in retirement centers becuase they are seen as more of a burden than a blessing. I wish that our young people would understand that there is more worth in the time and mentorship of an older person than in the airbrushed pages of magazines and posters.
Ok I see you have some thich sistas on here but you haev forgotten one of the most beautiful that is out today and doing her thing. Tocarra! I have to say babygirl is thicker then a 5 day head cold and fine as frog hair. Hmm let me just say the things I could do with her and a penthouse suite... hmmm lets just say teh cops would be knocking. Keep praising the thick sistas and leave the salad bar for them bony heffas!
Torahmom,
Thank you so much for reading my blog. You are so right that Hollywood does not give us an accurate picture of the American experience and the wise know that they know nothing but they also know that our elders hold the wisdoms of life and experience. One day we will get there slowly but surely. It is important that we a consumers begin to say that this is not the image we want for our children. Only then will Hollywood change their representations.
As for your blogging. I say go for it. It is one of the most freeing experiences and it will allow you to reach into your soul and really see what is going on in there. When you get your blog please let me know so that I can become a fan.
With gratitude,
Ms. Denva
Brandon,
Always one to show my mistakes I see. LOL. You are right Tocarra is gorgeous and it seems that she is gorgeous inside and out. When she was on both Top Model and Celebrity Fit Club she was seriously holding it down for us big girls. I do apologize for the oversight, trust I will not do that again. Also if you have a blog please share so that I can become your fan as well. :-)
Ms.Denva
You forgot a picture of yourself!
that's what i'm talking about. Sistas truy to play that humble role. We wanna see Ms.Denva!!!
;)
Great post Native! Too many women and alas, young girls are starving themselves to look like starlets and models. I'm glad to hear some of the models were banned from the runways in Spain for being too thin.
Women have to learn to look in the mirror and see themselves as beautiful, smart, important beings because God knows no one else will.
Paz,
Um, yeah probably not going to happen. The world is not ready for all this. :-)
Dragon,
Yeah, like I said to Paz probably not going to happen.
Debo,
I too am very excited about the new ban on extremely thin models. It is dangerous for these women and they are literally dying to be thin. I would like to see us go back to the time when normal sized women like Dorothy Dandridge and Marilyn Monroe were considered beautiful.
Ms. Denva
Ms. Denva,
You're right! There are many beautiful plus sized women in this world--of all nationalities. Unfortunately, we live in a society that shuns difference.
I think it's sad. Some of our men have grown to tolerate our thickness...but deep in side...when they download porn or flip the channels...it's the skinny, white or bi-racial women that make them take a double-take.
p.s. You should put your pic up...why not??
Counselor,
That is a sad state of affairs, that they feel that skinny is prettier. What they don't understand is that those women are not healthy, and they have issues. But hey I don't have time to worry about their issues I have my own.
On that note. Et Tu Counselor? I must remain anonymous, so that everyone will love me for my thoughts and not just my beauty. LOL :-)
